Laboratory water purity is defined by two main standards: ASTM International (Types I – IV, plus microbiological sub-standards A-C) and ISO 3696 (Grades 1 – 3). Type I/Grade 1 is the purest, with Type I requiring ≥ 18 MΩ cm resistivity and ≤ 50 µg/L total organic carbon. These standards measure conductivity, resistivity, TOC, sodium, chloride, silica, pH, bacteria and endotoxins to classify water for different lab applications.
